About Sirum
SIRUM (Supporting Initiatives to Redistribute Unused Medicine) is a social enterprise committed to expanding healthcare access for those in need.
Incubated at Stanford University, SIRUM leverages the power of technology to save medicine to save lives. As the nation’s largest redistributor of surplus medicine, we help organizations like health facilities and pharmacies to donate their unused medicine and get it to where it’s needed most, via a network of community partners who dispense to patients.
About Their AI Solution
SIRUM processes thousands of donations a day of surplus medicine. These drugs need to be classified considering different variables such as type, expiration date, and the number of pills per blister. SIRUM implemented a computer vision model designed for pill counting and extracting information from the labels — e.g., preparation date and type of medication.
